Yuma, Arizona is a city of around 90,000 spread about an area of about 107 square miles. It is the seat of Yuma County and is the main city of the Yuma Metropolitan Statistical Area. Yuma’s three largest employers are the Marine Corp Air Station, Yuma Proving Ground, and Yuma Regional Medical Center.
Yuma is primarily service by Interstate 8 running east-west as well as US Highway 95, which bisect the city. Compared to the rest of the state Yuma’s annual fatal accident count is often higher. The city’s public transportation is provided by Yuma County Area Transit (YCAT).
Yuma is situated in a desert region so it typically sees many more dry days than wet. The area does experience its fair share of flash floods during the rainier months. This can inundate low-lying areas and sometimes create sinkholes. Further still, because it so seldom rains, roads accumulate oil and tar, which can create very slippery conditions when they are wet. Other weather-related problems are occasional dusty conditions, which can create low visibility and scratch a car’s windshield and finish.
