Wichita AUTO INSURANCE (KS)
Located in south central Kansas along the Arkansas River, Wichita is the most populous city in the state. Nicknamed the Air Capital of the World, modern Wichita is a product of its rich history, most notably its legacy of aircraft pioneering and aircraft corporations.
Today the city is a popular cultural and entertainment center, attracting tourists to its downtown district full of nightclubs, restaurants, shopping centers, museums and parks. The city was ranked ninth of the ten best big cities in the United States in which to live in 2006.
The weather in Wichita can be very extreme with hot humid summers and cold dry winters. The city often experiences severe weather conditions with frequent thunderstorms during the summer months. Storms often bring large hail, lightning, and occasionally damaging winds and tornados.
Wichita also experiences air quality issues. Local air pollution sources such as vehicles and industrial manufacturing contributes to these issues as well as wind blowing in from elsewhere in Kansas. The city is taking comprehensive steps to reduce countywide air pollution by focusing on prevention. Citizens and the city plan to work cooperatively to control the sources of pollution and prevent degradation of air quality before it begins.
The city’s economy is primarily based on manufacturing, with aviation and aircraft development still dominating the industry. The healthcare sector is also large, with trade, transportation, information technology and finance trailing.
Crime rates in Wichita are above national averages but average for a city of its size. The most common are property crimes such as theft, auto theft, and burglary but violent crime rates also rank higher than national rates.
