Massive loss of groundwater has occurred in recent years, prompting water conservation initiatives such as consumption-based pricing for residential and commercial water use, and reallocation.
Tucson’s economic development is centered on the University of Arizona, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and US Army Intelligence Centers in the area. Manufacturing and tourism are other principle industries in the area. Traditional festivals, historical museums, and a strong prevalence of entertainment and the performing arts draw millions of tourists to the city every year.

The primary way of getting around Tucson is by car and its roads can be congested, particularly during rush hour.Tucson does have a mass transit system operated by SunTran Transit, which services Tucson and surrounding areas.Taxi fares are deregulated so riders can haggle for the best rate.The Old Pueblo Historic Trolley runs from Fourth Avenue Business District to the University of Arizona campus. Future expansion of the trolley system is planned to other parts of the city. |
