Trenton, New Jersey is a city of around 83,000 spread about an area of about 8 square miles. It is the seat of Mercer County and capital of the state. Trenton’s economy was traditionally manufacturing but today the largest employer is the state government employing about 20,000 workers.

Trenton is surrounded by a complex network of highways including US Highway 1 (Trenton Freeway), Interstate 205, and I-195, which turns into State Route 29 to the south of the city. Compared to the rest of the state Trenton’s annual fatal accident count is typically lower. Public transportation is provided by New Jersey Transit (NJT).

With a humid continental climate, Trenton has hot summers, cold winters, moderate humidity and violent thunderstorms. Snowfall can be low to moderate but blizzards are known to affect the area. During late spring and early summer, the region can see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and an occasional but rare tornado. In addition, remnants from Atlantic hurricanes can sometimes affect the area with heavy rain and high winds.
