Tampa AUTO INSURANCE (FL)
A Gulf Coast city, Tampa is located on the west coast of Florida in the southeastern region of the U.S. The city sits between the Old Tampa and Hillsborough Bays, both flowing from the larger Tampa Bay, which connects to the Gulf of Mexico.
Tampa has a humid subtropical climate with frequent thunderstorms in the summer. These storms are caused by cold Arctic winds meeting hot and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico over the city. They are so common that Tampa has earned the nickname of the Lightning Capital of North America. Numerous injuries and even several deaths occur each year from lightning strikes.
Divided into many diverse neighborhoods and districts, Tampa remains an accurate representation of its rich history. Tourism to the city generally revolves around tropical recreation. The city operates more than 165 parks and beaches covering 2286 acres within its limits. In 2005, Forbes ranked Tampa the fifth best outdoor city in the country.
Tourists also make their way to the city for its sports teams such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightening, and Devil Rays. In addition to tourism, sports, and real estate, Tampa’s economy is largely focused on the service industries such as retail, finance, insurance, air and sea shipping and national defense.
Crime rates in Tampa are high with numbers generally two to three times the national average. Property crimes are the most prevalent namely larceny theft, burglary and car theft with violent crimes such as aggravated assault and robbery trailing close behind.
City officials are seeking to address Tampa’s crime problem and although crime rates have dropped slightly in recent years, have made a commitment to further reduce numbers in the coming years.
