South Bend, Indiana is a city of around 108,000 spread about an area of about 39 square miles. It is the seat of St. Joseph County and is the fourth largest city in the state. South Bend has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. The area is accustomed to cold winters and hot humid summers. Precipitation is fairly evenly spread throughout the year with the wettest months being in winter and early summer. During late spring and early summer, the region can see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and tornadoes.
