San Diego AUTO INSURANCE (CA)

San Diego is located at the southernmost end of the west coast of the United States. It is the country’s eighth largest city and second-largest city in California with nearly 1.3 million residents stretched over 324 square miles. Lying among canyons and hills and divided by the San Diego River, San Diego is an extremely segmented city with low population density. The Cuyamaca and Laguna mountains lay to the east, blocking the city from the surrounding deserts.

The city has an extremely varied topography with everything from tidal marshes to canyons. While generally hot in the summers and mild during the winters, San Diego’s topography creates an extremely variable climate both year-to-year and cross-city resulting in microclimates. During May and June, a thick “marine layer” cloud cover keep the city cool and damp along the coast and cloudless further inland. Rainfall can be extremely heavy, especially at higher elevations increasing the risk of mudslides and flooding.

San Diego’s main industries are defense, manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture. Research in biotechnology is also on the rise. It is considered the fifth wealthiest city as well as the fifth-best place to live in the United States by Money and Forbes magazine, respectively.

While violent crime has decreased over the past decade, property crime is on the rise though still below the national average. A number of urban renewal projects are also underway, with the goal of renovating San Diego, but the economic crisis hit the city hard and progress is slow.

Water pollution is another major problem in San Diego. Unclean water floods into San Diego with each rain, clogging canals and rivers with dirt and debris. This has negative effects on wildlife and the sea. A cross-border team is currently working to clean up the environment across the border and in the city.
