Provo, Utah is a city of around 119,000 spread about an area of about 42 square miles. It is the seat of Utah County and is the third largest city in the state. Provo’s economy is based largely upon technology company Novell, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Brigham University, one of the largest private colleges in the nation.

The city is accessible from Interstate 15, US Highway 89, and US-189. Compared to the rest of the state Provo’s annual fatal accident count is always far lower. Public transportation is provided by Utah Transit Authority (UTA), which provides public bus and by 2012, commuter rail service.

Provo is within a semi-arid climate and experiences cold winters with occasional blizzards and hot summers with low to moderate humidity. Annual precipitation is pretty scant with most of that coming in late spring and early summer. The region can also see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and tornadoes.
