Orlando is the fifth largest city in Florida with a population around 215,000 across 94 square miles. Orlando is a heavily urbanized area with tourism and the hospitality industry being the main source of income for many of its residents.

Orlando’s climate is humid subtropical with a hot rainy season lasting from June through September and a dry season from October to May. Summers are characterized by higher temperatures, which rarely dip below 70F and moderate winters with average temperatures around 50F. Temperatures rarely fall below freezing and only for a short time when they do. In addition, the area is prone to violent thunderstorms with frequent lightning as well as hurricanes from both the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
Statistically, Orlando remains a crime-prone city with both violent and property crime well above the state average as well as above the national average. Recent years in particular have seen a dramatic uptick in murders/manslaughter and robberies.
