Omaha AUTO INSURANCE (NE)
Located in Midwest America along the Missouri River, Omaha’s population of nearly half-a-million residents are part of what is known as the Gateway to the West.
The city’s position in Eastern Nebraska puts it on a flood plain west of the river. With a humid continental climate, Omaha has hot summers, cold winters, moderate humidity and frequent, violent thunderstorms. These storms have been known to cause more severe weather or tornados.
Omaha is divided into five large geographic areas, Downtown, Midtown, North Omaha, South Omaha, and West Omaha, as well as several smaller ones such as East Omaha and five European ethnic enclaves.
Historically, the city was a transportation hub with some of the world’s largest stockyards, meatpacking plants, and breweries. Many immigrants came to Omaha for railroad and industrial jobs causing a great deal of racial and ethnic tension. Racial and ethnic discrimination often led to poverty, causing the city problems with gambling, drug trafficking and drug use through the end of the 20
Century.
Today, Omaha’s economy is centered on more skilled knowledge jobs and ranks eighth among the nation’s 50 largest cities in per-capita billionaires and Fortune 500 companies. Though the city is still the most diverse in the state, ethnic violence has dropped. While gang-related violence has increased in recent years, Omaha’s overall violent crime rates are consistently below national averages and property crime rates are declining.
