Miramar, Florida is a city of around 108,000 spread about an area of about 31 square miles. It is the located in Broward County and is named after a district in Havana, Cuba. Miramar’s economy is based largely upon Spirit Airlines, which is headquartered there. In addition, as with most locations in Southeast Florida, the city has a thriving tourism and recreational industry.
Several highways provide access to the area including Interstate 95, I-75, Florida’s Turnpike, as well as US Highway 1. Compared to the rest of the state Miramar’s annual fatal accident count is almost always much higher. Public transportation is provided by Broward County Transit (BCT) with bus service throughout the Broward County area and Tri-Rail is a commuter rail system from North Palm Beach all the way south to Miami.
The city is part of the tropical rainforest climate area with warm winters, hot summers, and a high probability of drenching rains during the summer months. Hurricane season runs from June through November and Miramar is most likely to be hit during Cape Verde season, from mid-August through September.
