Metairie, Louisiana is a city of around 146,000 spread about an area of about 23 square miles. It is located in Jefferson Parish and is the largest city in the parish. Metairie’s economy is largely supported by the retail industry and has one of the highest grossing malls in the New Orleans area. The city also caters to families with a kid-friendly version of Mardi Gras.

The major highways running through the area include Interstate 10 running east-west, US Highway 61 (Airline Drive), and US-90 (Jefferson Highway). Public mass transportation is provided by Jefferson Transit (JeT), which operates bus service Monday through Saturday.

Metairie is part of a humid subtropical climate heavily influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild which give way to warm springs and long, hot and steamy summers. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year; winter months tend to be the wettest while autumn is the driest. Metairie can sometimes experience strong violent storms with tornadoes along with the effects of the occasional hurricanes which blow in from the Gulf.
