McKinney, Texas is a city of around 127,000 spread about an area of about 63 square miles. It is the seat of Collin County and is the second-most populated city in the county behind Plano. McKinney’s economy is supported by low crime, well-paying jobs, and affordable housing.
McKinney is accessible from US Highway 75 and US-380. Other major highways serving the city are State Highway 5 and SH-121. Compared to the rest of the state McKinney’s annual fatal accident count is typically much lower. The area is not served by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) but plans for a future extension are in the works. Trolley transit service is operated by Craig Ranch.
McKinney is part of a humid subtropical climate heavily influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild which give way to warm springs and long, hot and steamy summers. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year; winter months tend to be the wettest while autumn is the driest. McKinney can sometimes experience strong violent storms with tornadoes along with the effects of the occasional remnants of hurricanes which blow in from the Gulf.
