Crime rates in Long Beach are relatively low, coming in below national averages in all categories. Still, crimes against property remain the highest with residential and commercial burglary and larceny/theft ranking consistently at the top.

  • Long Beach is bisected by the San Diego Freeway (I-405) as well as the Golden State/Santa Ana Freeways or I-5.
  • The Long Beach Freeway or I-710 runs north and south along the city's western edge while southeast Long Beach is accessible by the San Gabriel Freeway (I-605), which joins I-405 at the border of Long Beach and Los Alamitos.
  • SR 91 runs east and west along north Long Beach while the Pacific Coast Highway or SR-1 runs east to southwest through southern Long Beach.

Long Beach is serviced by the Los Angeles Metro Blue Line light rail, which runs from Long Beach City Hall to downtown LA.
Public Transportation
Long Beach is laid out on a grid system which makes traversing the area relatively easy by car.Long Beach Transit provides bus service throughout the area and mini-buses and shuttles to ferry passengers in and out of the downtown area.It also owns and operates about 50 AquaBus water taxis for taking visitors to various water attractions and other locations as well as about 75 AquaLink water taxis.Torrance Transit operates buses to go from downtown Long Beach to South Bay while Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has bus service from San Pedro and the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to downtown Long Beach.
