Hillsboro, Oregon is a city of around 90,000 spread about an area of about 23 square miles. It is the seat of Washington County and is the fifth-largest city in the state. Hillsboro has a dry summer subtropical climate with warm dry summers and cold wet winters. Precipitation is regular and heaviest during the fall, winter, and spring while almost non-existent during the summer months. The most prevalent weather hazards are ice storms, which can coat power lines and tree limbs as well as a risk of flooding. There is also occasional tornado activity and the region has seen damage from violent storms in the past.
