Erie, Pennsylvania is a city of around 104,000 spread about an area of about 28 square miles. It is the seat of Erie County and is the fourth largest city in the state. Erie’s economy is based largely upon the manufacturing industry and is the home of the corporate headquarters of GE Transportation and Plastek Industries. Erie produces in excess of 10% of the nation’s plastic products.

Erie has a humid subtropical climate as such the city is accustomed to mild winters and hot humid summers. Precipitation is fairly evenly spread throughout the year with the wettest months being in winter and early summer. During late spring and early summer, the region can see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and tornadoes.
