Detroit AUTO INSURANCE (MI)

Located in the Midwestern United States, Detroit is a major port city on the Detroit River. While considered a part of the state of Michigan, it is actually located north of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It is found on the river connecting the Great Lakes and its nearly one million residents are spread out over a total approximately 139 square miles of land.

Detroit’s summers are generally warm to hot and winters are cold with moderate snowfall. The city experiences significant precipitation year round and is greatest during the summer months and occasionally causes flooding.


With a thriving nightlife, historical architecture and a strong presence of art and the performing arts, Detroit has a lot to offer in terms of culture and entertainment. Detroit is a major automobile manufacturing center including headquarters for the Big Three automobile companies: General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. More than four thousand factories are located throughout the city and Detroit is also home to numerous international law firms making it a center for global trade.

While efforts are being made to combat underlying issues, Detroit has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. Crime rates are significantly above national averages and about 60-70% of all homicides are drug-related while the chance of being a victim of property crime is approximately 1 in 16.

Major Highways
  • Detroit is served by a vast freeway system including six interstate highways and several other limited access expressways to the Greater Detroit area.
  • I-75 heads to north as the Chrysler Freeway and south as the Fisher Freeway and connects to I-375.
  • I-94 also known as the Ford Freeway connects to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport connects east to west.
  • Interstate 96 (Jeffries Freeway) connects Detroit to Muskegon, Grand Rapids, and Lansing.
  • I-696, or the Walter Reuter Freeway, is the main east to west route across the city's northern areas while I-275 provides a western bypass.
  • Other notable routes into the city are US 10 (Lodge Freeway), State Route 39 (Southfield Freeway), and the Canadian Highway 401.

Public Transportation
Since Detroit was built around a car culture, its grid system is logically laid out and caters to car drivers.Two public transportation systems are provided by the Detroit Department of Transportation and the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transport (SMART).The People Mover is a 2.9-mile elevated rail circuit, which provides access to major downtown sites among 13 stations.
