The city is a key trade point for the country and its economy is largely energy and mining-based with more than 700 petroleum engineers employed in the region.
Although overall gang violence has dropped over the past decade, much of Denver’s crime remains gang-related. A majority of crimes such as crack cocaine and firearm trafficking, homicides, drive-by shootings, aggravated assaults, home invasions, and robberies can be directly traced to gangs.
Crime rates are fairly average for a large city but above national averages. Top crimes include larceny theft, burglary, auto theft, assault, robbery, rape, and murder.
