The tourism and oil and petrochemicals industries have done well in Corpus Christi and the unemployment rate is among the lowest in the country. Corpus Christi is home to the sixth largest port in the U.S. and the deepest inshore port on the Gulf of Mexico. A majority of the population is also employed in the armed forces, trade, and government sectors.
