Chesapeake AUTO INSURANCE (VA)
Chesapeake, with its population of around 220,000 is an independent city and the third largest in the state of Virginia. Spread over an area roughly 341 square miles, Chesapeake is one of the larger cities in the nation in terms of land.
The area is largely affected by the Gulf Stream and hurricanes remain a threat near the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. Thunderstorms are a regular weather feature during warmer months and tornadoes are relatively higher in the area than in the rest of the state. Over the years as the area has expanded its suburbs, the city has experienced declining air quality.
Much of the area is largely based on the service industry though a great many residents work for the federal government due to the city’s proximity to Washington DC. In addition the area is home to seven Fortune 500 companies and many other large corporations.
Chesapeake’s crime rate is much higher than elsewhere throughout the state with violent crime and property crime being higher than the state and national averages.
