Canton, Ohio is a city of around 78,000 spread about an area of about 21 square miles. It is the seat of Stark County and is about 60 miles south of Cleveland. Canton’s economy has been traditionally heavy manufacturing based but has diversified in recent years into service, retail, finance, healthcare, education, and finance.

The city is serviced by Interstate 77 (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway) as well as US Highway 30. Compared to the rest of the state Canton’s annual fatal accident count is typically lower. Public transportation is provided by the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA).

With a humid continental climate, Canton has hot summers, cold winters, moderate humidity and violent thunderstorms. Snowfall can be low to moderate but blizzards are known to affect the area. During late spring and early summer, the region can see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and an occasional but rare tornado.
