Brandon, Florida is a census-designated (CDP) of around 90,000 spread about an area of about 29 square miles. It is located in Hillsborough County and grew in population by over 15% in just seven years. Brandon’s economy has grown and diversified as its southern area underwent dramatic development in the 80s, especially when I-75 began bringing larger volumes of traffic into the area.
The city is accessible from Interstate 75 and State Route 60. Compared to the rest of the state Brandon’s annual fatal accident count is typically much lower. Public transportation is provided by Hillsborough Area Regional Transit with regular bus service.
Brandon is part of a humid subtropical climate heavily influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild which give way to warm springs and long, hot and steamy summers. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year; winter months tend to be the wettest while autumn is the driest. Brandon can sometimes experience strong violent storms with tornadoes along with the effects of the occasional hurricanes which blow in from the Gulf.
