Baton Rouge AUTO INSURANCE (LA)
Baton Rouge is the second largest city and the capital of Louisiana. With a population around 220,000 residents over about 77 square miles, the city is situated on the Mississippi River and the Port of Baton Rouge is the ninth largest in the U.S. in terms of tonnage.
Baton Rouge’s climate is characterized as humid subtropical with mild but wet winters and hot humid summers. Moderate to heavy rainfall is a common occurrence throughout the year but mid-spring and autumn tend to be the driest. While snow is very rare, sadly in recent years hurricanes have not and the city often sees the remnants of strong Gulf Coast hurricanes as they move inland.
The city’s economy is strong and robust with a petrochemical production and manufacturing being its largest economy. Dow Chemical and NanYa Technology also have major facilities in the area. In addition to these industries, the State of Louisiana and Louisiana State University also employ a large number of residents.
Baton Rouge remains troubled by crime and is considerably more dangerous to live in than other parts of the state. In particular, violent crime is quite high at nearly twice the national average and property crimes are not too far behind at about one-and-a-half times the national average.
