Baltimore AUTO INSURANCE (MD)
Baltimore is located in the north-central part of the state of Maryland conveniently positioned along the Patapsco River. The city serves as a major U.S. seaport and center of commerce and trade with easy access to Midwestern markets.
Baltimore is divided by the fall line between the Piedmont Plateau and the Atlantic Coastal Plain separating Baltimore into a “lower” and “upper” city as well as nine geographical regions and over three hundred identified neighborhood districts.
Consistent with the largely service-oriented economy that has developed in the city following its deindustrialization, Baltimore’s main employers are Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital. As the city gains prominence in the southern Mid-Atlantic region, the finance, business and health services industries are rapidly on the rise.
The weather in Baltimore is extremely unpredictable. Summers are generally warm and humid while winters tend to be mild though subtropical air masses can bring either periods of warm weather or Arctic fronts. Regular showers and thunderstorms are common in spring, summer and fall and the city sees frequent snow, freezing rain, and sleet in the winter.
Crime rates in Baltimore are consistently nearly seven times the national average with a particularly high number of homicides every year. The most common crimes are aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, and theft. While overall crime in the city is gradually declining, crime rates are still extremely high.
