Austin AUTO INSURANCE (TX)

Austin is located on the Colorado River in the westernmost part of the American South. It is the capital of Texas and is the fifteenth-largest city in the United States. It is also the third-fastest growing large city in the nation over the past decade.

The city’s diverse mix of universities, government buildings, centers for performing arts and technological manufacturers bring people from all socio-economic groups together. Austin has a diverse population with a reputation for an “eclectic and liberal” lifestyle. Annual cultural events related to arts, entertainment and film attract millions of tourists to the city each year.

Straddling the Balcones Escarpment, half of the city is flat with heavy clay soil while the other half is extremely hilly. Many of these hills are comprised of limestone rock with only a thin layer of topsoil over them contributing to frequent flash flooding. A number of dams and manmade lakes have been created to control this problem. While the city experiences severe thunderstorms, tornadoes are rare.

A major center for high-tech manufacturing, Austin has earned the nickname “Silicon Hills,” a name also derived from the city’s hilly topography. Austin is also an emerging hub for industries such as pharmacy and biotechnology. Austin’s economy encompasses large multinationals amongst a strong network of smaller, independent, and local companies. Entrepreneurship in Austin is on the rise and has been recognized across the country.

Austin is ranked the fifth safest city in the United States with fewer than five murders annually per 100,000 people.
