Augusta, Georgia is a city of just under 200,000 and is the second most populous city and capital of the state. Augusta occupies an area of around 307 square miles. Augusta has a humid subtropical climate as such the city is accustomed to mild winters and hot humid summers. Precipitation is fairly evenly spread throughout the year with the wettest months being in winter and early summer. During late spring and early summer, the region can see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and tornadoes.
