Anchorage Auto Insurance (AK)
The northernmost major city in the United States and largest city in the state of Alaska, Anchorage is located on a strip of coastal lowland on the lower alpine slopes of the Chugach Mountains.
The city lies north of the Turnagain Arm a fjord with some of the world’s highest tides, southeast of another tidal inlet known as the Knik Arm and west of the Chugach Mountains. Its sea coast consists of treacherous mudflats affected by extreme tidal changes and fine glacial silt. Several individuals have become stuck in the mud and died of hypothermia due to the cold water.
With a subarctic climate, Anchorage has cool summers and long sunny days and very cold winters with short days and little to no sunlight. Ash hazards are significant due to the city’s close proximity to active volcanoes. Eruptions recorded as recently as 2009, shower the city with ash and huge quantities of water are necessary for post-event cleanup causing major shortage problems.
The city has been named the All-America City four times as well as the most tax-friendly city in the U.S. The city’s largest economic sectors include transportation, military, local and federal government as well as tourism and resource extraction.
