Headquartered in Lincoln, Rhode Island, the company maintains around 40 offices nationwide and employs more than 3000. Amica was founded in 1907 by prominent Rhode Island businessman Adolph T. Vigneron, who at the time was vice president of Associated Factory Mutual Fire Insurance Companies. This company was in the business of offering low insurance premiums to minimum risk factories in excellent operating condition. Vigneron believed he could apply the same idea to auto insurance and organized a mutual insurance company.

As the number of automobiles on the road increased, so did Amica’s growth and too keep up with demand for auto insurance, Factory Mutual Liability Insurance Company of America was chartered in 1914 to provide liability insurance to policyholders. In 1941, Amica opened the doors to its first branch office in Boston, Massachusetts and today has 39 offices around the nation. In 2007, the company celebrated its ^100th anniversary.
