Allen, Texas is a city of around 77,000 spread about an area of about 27 square miles. It is located in Collin County and is a northern suburb of Dallas. Allen’s larger employers are Allen Independent School District, Presbyterian Hospital, and the City of Allen.

The primary road servicing the city is US Highway 75 (Central Expressway). Compared to the rest of the state Allen’s annual fatal accident count is typically much lower. Public transportation is provided by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

Allen is part of a humid subtropical climate heavily influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild which give way to warm springs and long, hot and steamy summers. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year; winter months tend to be the wettest while autumn is the driest. Allen can sometimes experience strong violent storms with tornadoes along with the effects of the occasional remnants of hurricanes which blow in from the Gulf.
